Cuba battle past Egypt in straight sets

 

Egypt's Ahmed Omar spikes against Cuban double block

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 25, 2015 - Cuba notched a straight sets victory (25-20, 25-19, 25-17) over Egypt on the second day of the FIVB Men's U23 World Championship at "Al Nasr" hall on Tuesday.  

Mestre Uriarte (15 points), Abrahan Alfonso (13), and Rodriguez Osoria (10) were the driving force for the Cubans in the triumph. Egypt's Ahmed Saad had 9 points in the loss as the best scorer from his side.

Cuba improved their win- loss ratio to 2-0, while Egypt dropped to 0-2

The keys to victory for Cuba were strong teamwork and balanced scoring throughout the game. they used all their offensive tools to penetrate the Egyptian unstable block. The Egyptian players couldn't come back from their frequent reception and defensive mistakes  

Uriarte made his presence felt early in the match with soaring spikes during the opening set to reach 8-5 mark at the first TTO. Several unforced errors saw Egypt call a timeout while trailing 23-17. With Egyptian struggle the Cuban went to 25-20 win in the first set

The Egyptian team started the second set with shaky reception and this allowed Cuba to have a wide advance 8-3, before the Egyptian coach Rys substituted his star outside hitter Ahmed Shafik with Ahmed Omar, while the Cuban coach kept the same squad to widen the point deficit to 16-9, before they went to 25-19 win in the second set. 

The Cubans kept their temper, while the Egyptians continued without motivations in the third set and thus it was a wider win for the Caribbeans in the third set 25-17.
