Ahmed Khamis spiking against Egyptian triple block
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 26, 2015 – Egypt registered their first victory over hosts United Arab Emirates in straight sets (25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 25-12) in their Men's U23 World Championship Pool A campaign at Al Nasr Hall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
With the win Egypt improved their competition's record to 1-2, while UEA dropped to 0-3.
Egypt played a high-spirit game for the first two sets but suddenly Emirates came steadily to lead in the third set and Narrow the score, before the Egyptian regained the rhythm and won the fourth set.
Ahmed Shafik's 17 points put him as the best scorer for the winners Equal to opposite Ahmed Saad, while Mohamed Khamis contributed 18 points as best scorer from the losers' side followed by Adel Alblooshi 10.
Egypt dominated the first set through their strong services to lead 8-3 at the first TTO with a mistake from the UAE defence. Egypt maintained their leading to 16-5 with a block from Ahmed Saad. It was easy for the Egyptians to continue for a wide 25-14 in the first set.
UAE improved their reception as the Egyptian service became less potent. Egypt blocked twice through Saad to lead 8-3. UAE came in with frequent spikes from opposite Mohamed Khamis, but Egypt stayed ahead 16-12 at the second TTO. The score was near till Egypt won the set 25-21.
The third set was the best for UAE as the hosts extracted all the power in blocking and also in attacking through all the net positions specially Khamis in Position 2 who scored the winner 25-22 to narrow the score to 2-1 for Egypt.
Again Egypt regained the rhythm as their captain Ahmed Shafik did well in attacks from positron 4 as well as in serving to win the set 25-12 and the match 3-1.
