Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 31, 2015 – Iran achieved seventh place in FIVB Men’s U23 World Championship after defeating Korea 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15) at Al Nasr Club in Dubai, on Monday.
Iran’s Pourya Fayazi Damnabi scored 16 points for winning team. Jiseok Jung’s 21 points performance was not enough for Korea to avoid defeat.
Korea took a great start with Jiseok Jung’s spikes and led 4-1 in a short time. Afterwards, Iran managed to balance the game with block-defence. Iran’s 8 block points in the first set were the main difference and Iran won the set 25-23.
In the second set it was Iran who started better. Korea again had problems to pass Iranian team’s block on the net and Iran did not lose the control for the whole set, which they won 25-20.
Korea’s displayed a better attacking performance in the third set. Korean team led both technical timeouts (8-6, 16-12). Iran could not stay competitive in the end and Korea won the set by a comfortable gap, 25-17.
Iran stepped up again in the last set. Thanks to good team play on the net, Iranian team started to extend the gap and they achieved a double digit margin at 20-10 before eventually winning the set 25-15.
