Iran open with victory over spirited hosts

 

Iran team celebrating the victory over United Arab Emirates

 Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 24, 2015 - Iran opened the 2015 FIVB Men's U23  World Championship on the right foot with a convincing 3-0 (25-16, 25-25, 25-20) victory over hosts United Arab Emirates in Pool A encounter at Al Nasr Hall in Dubai, on Monday. 

Iran's Javad Hosseinabadi was the main offensive weapon with11 points while UAE's Mohamed Alsuwaidi matched 14 points, which represented an incredible 27 per cent of her team’s total tally of 52.

The World Junior ranked No 5 had many tools to overcome their geographic neighbours, but mainly was the taller spikers and the sharp service played by most of the team 

From the beginning it was clear that the well orgainsed Iran team had the superiority as they went easily to win the first set 25-16 through the efficient attacks led by Saeed Tavana and Pourya Damnabi.

In the second set, Iran setter came in to conduct another wide lead 25-15 to advance 2-0. Iran coach Akbari Peyman started to use some substitutes and this allowed UAE to enter the game relatively before they could maintain their lead till they won the third set 25-20 and the match in straight sets.
