Russia finish preliminary round with style against Mexico

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 29, 2015 – Russia whitewashed Mexico in straight sets (25-22, 25-12, 25-17) in the opening game of Day 5 in FIVB Men’s U23 World Championship at Al Ahli Club in Dubai, on Saturday.

Russia qualified for the semifinals after fourth day but with this win they stayed unbeaten and finished atop in Pool B. Mexico finished the tournament without winning a set. Russia’s Egor Feoktistov and Dmitry Volkov scored 13 points each for the winning team. On the other side, Julian Duartes scored 8 points for Mexico.

Russia did not let Mexico to get in the game from the beginning. They took an early lead and thanks to Dmitry Volkov’s performance, extended the gap during the set before winning 25-22.

Russia started the second set with a 5-0 run. European team’s attacking was unstoppable for Mexico and Russia won the set with a big margin, 25-12.

Despite Mexico’s resistance and 8-6 lead in the third set, Russia again managed to take control. Blocks and serves helped Russian team and they won the last set by 25-17.
