Russia overcome Tunisia in Pool B opener

 

Russian team celebrate their first victory in FIVB Men's U23 World Championship

 Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 24, 2015 – Russia overcame Tunisia's come back to win 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22) in pool B opener of the 2015 Men's U23 World Championship at Al Ahli Club. in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Monday.

Russia’s Alexander Kimerov was the star of the game with 18 points. And setter Pavel Pankov’s 23 serves were an important key for the victory. Elyes Garfi and Malek Chekir scored 14 points each for Tunisia.

Russia dominated the beginning of the game with strong net actions and took the early lead 6-2. Pavel Pankov’s serves were unstoppable for Tunisia and Russia gained a 10 points advantage at 21-11. Tunisia’s effort was not enough to chance the gap and Russia won the first set 25-15.

At the beginning of the second set, it was Tunisia who were doing the right things and the African team led 8-4 at the first technical timeout. Despite Russia levelling the game at 12-all, Tunisia did not lose the control and won the set 25-22.

Two teams again changed their roles in the third set. Russia were very aggressive on the net led both technical timeouts. In the end Tunisia’s errors helped Russia to extend the gap and young European side won the set 25-18.

Tunisia started well to the fourth set but Russia made a comeback to balance the game at 13-13. The game continued point by point between two sides till 21-20 Russia lead. European team showed its power in last points and won the set 25-22 and the game 3-1.
