Cuba's Abrahan Alfonso gavilian spikes against Korea
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 24, 2015 - With great dominance in blocking and spiking activity Cuba went to a straight sets victory (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) over struggling Korea in Pool A encounter at Al nasr Hall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Monday.
Mestre Uriarte led the Cuban and match scorers with 14 points, while Kim Inhyeck and Jung Jiseok contributed 8 points each as the best in the Korean side.
With a blocking dominance of 15/8 it was easy for the taller Cubans to go through and steadily control the net action.
The Cuban outside hitters Mestre Uriarte and Gavilan Alfonso played their best as they sent their razor sharp hits which wasn't tolerated by the Korean blockers.
Cuba started using the quick attacks through the centre Osario Alvarez using the height difference over the Koreans, but quickly they used their outstanding hitter Uriarte to win the first set 25-21.
Korea fought back early in the second set using the spikes of their opposite attacker Kim Sungmin, the Cubans were ready to come back through the combinations led by the setter Ricardo Calvo to win in the same score 25-22.
The Koreans played their best in the third set specially when they improved their reception and backline defence, but again Uriarte and Tomas Sosa had the upper hand to win the set 25-22 and finish the match 3-0.
