Roberley Leonaldo, or Rubinho, was born in Curitiba on February 6 1969 and began playing volleyball at 11 before turning to coaching at 18. After coaching teams such as Duque de Caxias, Clube Curitibano, Cocamar Maringá, Santa Mônica Clube de Campo, Barão/Ceval (Blumenal) and Bento Gonçalves/RS he moved to São Paulo to work with Banespa. He stayed at the club for 10 years, coaching ABC Paulista at the same time. He has been involved in the national setup since 2012, acting as assistant coach to Bernardo Rezende. He was part of the coaching team that saw Brazil’s senior team win the World League, Grand Champions Cup, South American Championship and two silver medals in the Olympic Games (2008 and 2012). He also led the Under 23 national team to the title in 2013.
