Team profile

The Italian men’s U23 team will be composed of many players coming from their U21 squad. Before the age-group competitions, Italy have achieved a medal haul in world junior tournaments. Their first medal was silver in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in 1985; in front their home crowd in Milan, under Polish coach Alexander Skiba. Under coach Skriba, they returned to the podium in 1991 in Cairo, behind Bulgaria. In 1993, they won the silver behind Brazil in Rosario under coach Fausto Polidori. In 1995 they won bronze in Kuala Lumpur also under coach Polidori. Their junior men’s team have also achieved a fourth place finish in 2001 in Poland, and in 2007 in Morocco. In the 2013 FIVB World Championship held in Italy, the Italians took bronze under coach Marco Bonitta.
